January Favorites

Hello all! We are back to share our January favorites with you. We hope everyone is having an awesome 2016 so far! Is it just us, or is January the lonnngest month ever? But hey, we made it through!

Ashley’s Favorites
My first fave I want to share with you that I am loving is Drybar’s Detox Dry Shampoo from Sephora. I have always been a big fan of dry shampoos due to my hair being very dry and naturally curly, therefore, I do not wash it every day. Let’s be honest, I might wash it once or twice a week. I’ve been doing this for years and my hair dresser is actually the one who encouraged me to start.

I usually start the week with a wash, dry, and then wand and straighten as needed. Now, as the days go on, this is where the dry shampoo comes in. My hair may have flattened when sleeping on it or when I go to the gym and it gets sweaty, (gross? nah, not too bad) so I start by spraying my roots and then move to my scalp. I can automatically see the volume in my hair once I’ve sprayed. I use my fingers or a pick to comb through my hair and then touch it up with my wand and straightener. I love the way it makes my hair look and the smell is wonderful. Just remember not to use too much, or it will give your hair a really weird texture. I have had my bottle since mid December actually and I am just now needing to purchase a new bottle.

My other fave that is now a part of my daily food intake is a Kind Bar.  These things are the best! With the new year starting, and my wedding coming up in June, I really wanted to get back into exercising and eating right. A good friend of mine was telling me about Kind Bars and that she eats them as a snack during the day. She let me try one and they are delicious! Plus, they are Gluten free, Non GMO, Low Glycemic, 0g Trans Fat and very low in Sodium. They also have 7g of Protein.

I carry two with me to school. I eat one for my morning snack, which is in between breakfast and lunch. I will usually eat my other one in between lunch and dinner. I like to switch out my second one sometimes and eat fruit or almonds instead. As soon as I eat one, my hunger goes away and I feel satisfied until my next meal. My favorite kinds are Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter and Strawberry. I order mine from Amazon because they have them in boxes of 12. They are a tad bit pricey, but they are worth it in my opinion and they are a great addition to my diet. If you have Amazon Prime, you can get them with free shipping, or if you do the Subscribe and Save, you can get them a bit cheaper. These are a must try!

Jess’s Favorites

I bought these scripture memory cards from Scarlet + Gold a couple of months ago, and was really anxious to dive into them. There are 52 in a pack and are for learning once a week. So, I was anxious because I was waiting to begin the first week of January. And I tell you, it has been a great start to 2016. I am loving it! It supplements my bible study so well! It is so important to learn scripture, and Scarlet + Gold has made it an easy and lovely experience. The cards have the chicest design and are divided into themes. I have the “A Redeemed Girl” pack (which, sadly, is sold out), and they just came out with a second pack called “My God Is.” These packs cost $32.

In a recent trip to Birmingham, my sister and I went shopping, and ventured into the Kendra Scott store. After browsing, we decided to create our own rings at their color bar. It was so easy, and the rings are chic and great for everyday wear. You can choose your own ring style and gem color. It was very hard to decide, but I went with the Judy ring with the black gem. My sister went with the same style, but with the slate cat’e eye gem. The rings at the color bar are on sale now for $39.97 and are final sale.

Lovely Floral Calendars

One great thing about the new year is getting organized with fun new planners and calendars. They not only let you keep track of important events, they also help brighten up your space. To help you ring in 2016 in style, FTD created two types of floral printable calendars.

The wall calendars are full-page (8.5″ x 11″) printouts that can either be hung up or hole punched and put in a binder to help you stay organized. The desktop versions can be printed on 11″ x 17″ paper, cut, and folded into upright calendars to sit atop your desk (and can even be a fun and easy project for students). Whichever you choose, these calendars are sure make keeping track of your busy schedule a little bit easier.

I love how this calendar is styled with a slender frame and surrounded by gold and pink accents.

Jess:

Here’s how I use my calendar in my classroom. This desktop version is the right size for my desk. It doesn’t take up much room and adds a quaint touch of lovely.

Below is the wall calendar and works great on your bulletin board, for student due dates, or to keep organized in a notebook. The possibilities are endless! I’m currently hanging mine on my bulletin board.

 Ashley:

I also use the desk and wall calendar as well. Love the font and how it looks on my desk.

I also like to keep a calendar on my refrigerator with reminders and events coming up, meals to cook, appointments, etc. This one is perfect for that!

Quietest Classroom Pencil Sharpener

So, I’ve heard a lot of talk about this cool and quiet pencil sharpener that everyone is using from Classroom Friendly Supplies. I finally just had to break down and try it for myself and I am loving it! It truly is the quietest pencil sharpener I’ve ever had. And don’t you just love the cool, retro look?! I ordered mine in pink, of course, but there are several colors to choose from.

I loved seeing the look on my students’ faces when they saw how sharp their pencils were after using this pencil sharpener. They could not believe how sharp it made their pencils! And of course, they love the way it looks.

Now, I teach first grade, so I have trained one responsible and trustworthy student to use my pencil sharpeners. Using my electric pencil sharpener, the student and I sharpen pencils before and after school only, mainly because hearing the sound of an electric pencil sharpener during the school day makes me want to pull my hair out. And if I let every student use the sharpener, it would be destroyed (again, I teach first grade- they can’t help but destroy things). But, now that I have the quietest pencil sharpener, my responsible student and I can use it during the day, if needed, because it doesn’t make a sound. No disruptions, no driving everyone crazy with the loud noise, and extremely better sharpened pencils. It’s a win-win for everyone!

How to use:

Pull the silver face forward until it locks in place.

Pinch the 2 black knobs together and put your pencil into the sharpener. Release the knobs and they will hold the pencil in place.

Put one hand on the pencil sharpener and use the other to turn the handle to sharpen  the pencil.

And ta-da! You have a beautifully, sharpened pencil!

The sharpener also comes with a wall mount, so it can be mounted to the wall.

This sharpener is definitely a must have, in my opinion. Hurry and order yours today! Click here to go to the site. There is also a link below on our page that will take you there!

Happy Friday and happy early Thanksgiving!
